About Us
West Berkshire has established a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) in accordance with "Working Together to Safeguard Children" (Department of Health, 2006).
As part of the 'Every Child Matters' agenda, the LSCB has a duty to promote good working practices and monitor the effectiveness of inter-agency working that safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
It is responsible for:
- co-ordinating the activities of all agencies concerned with the protection of children
- developing and agreeing local policies and procedures
- assuring the quality of child protective services
- raising awareness in the wider community of the need to safeguard children
West Berkshire LSCB vision for safeguarding
We work together as an inter-agency partnership to safeguard and promote the welfare of children
To further the preventive, proactive and responsive work of the LSCBs in the West of Berkshire
To gain benefit from close working across the three LSCBs with joint sub-groups and other work where appropriate
To stay in touch with national development and promote these locally
To stay in touch with regional developments and work in partnership where appropriate
To establish useful partnerships with the Children & Young People's Partnership and the Health and Wellbeing Board
To offer a constructive challenge to partner agencies where this appears necessary
To promote the safer recruitment and appropriate training of the children's workforce in agencies working with children
To commission Serious Case Reviews where these appear to be necessary
